Elements and Performance Criteria
- Clarify client order
- Consult other parties to clarify or provide additional information about medical grade footwear requirements
- Determine resources required to manufacture medical grade footwear
- Select materials to match design requirements of footwear components
- Order special or one-off materials from suppliers and confirm availability within specified timelines
- Check shoe last and pattern
- Conduct a trial last fitting prior to cutting pattern
- Clarify design features with client and cut pattern
- Construct and finish footwear
- Check equipment to confirm compliance with manufacturer operating procedures and WHS practices
- Cut required footwear pieces from patterns and sew and close upper
- Prepare, cut and build componentry, including inner soles and orthotic componentry
- Prepare and last footwear
- Construct sole, heel and build-up and attach bottom, including external raisers, as required
- Liaise with relevant personnel during production of custom-made medical grade shoes to confirm details
- Undertake finishing off, add final components and check product to ensure compliance with established quality standards prior to process end
- Complete record keeping procedures and administrative tasks
