Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Clarify client order
  2. Consult other parties to clarify or provide additional information about medical grade footwear requirements
  3. Determine resources required to manufacture medical grade footwear
  4. Select materials to match design requirements of footwear components
  5. Order special or one-off materials from suppliers and confirm availability within specified timelines
  6. Check shoe last and pattern
  7. Conduct a trial last fitting prior to cutting pattern
  8. Clarify design features with client and cut pattern
  9. Construct and finish footwear
  10. Check equipment to confirm compliance with manufacturer operating procedures and WHS practices
  11. Cut required footwear pieces from patterns and sew and close upper
  12. Prepare, cut and build componentry, including inner soles and orthotic componentry
  13. Prepare and last footwear
  14. Construct sole, heel and build-up and attach bottom, including external raisers, as required
  15. Liaise with relevant personnel during production of custom-made medical grade shoes to confirm details
  16. Undertake finishing off, add final components and check product to ensure compliance with established quality standards prior to process end
  17. Complete record keeping procedures and administrative tasks
